School Design and Construction
SPS Construction Projects
Most school design and construction at Seattle Public Schools is funded by local, voter-approved capital levies. Other funding sources include Distressed Schools Grants from the state of Washington and the state School Construction Assistance Program.
Major construction projects, such as replacement buildings or major modernization/historic renovations, continue over multiple years.
Smaller projects are usually scheduled for summer months to reduce disruption to teaching and learning. These summer projects include safety and security projects, seismic upgrades, building systems repairs or replacement, and roofing projects.
Current Major Projects
Construction began summer 2022 on an addition and modernization at Van Asselt School. Construction began May 2022 on the first phase of replacement at Rainier Beach High School.
