1810 Board Governance Goal-Setting and Self-Evaluation

Board Governance Goal-Setting

At least annually, the Board will formulate governance goals that apply to the Board and that guide the Board and its Directors in effective governance.

The goals formulated under this policy will address the performance and behaviors of the Board and its members rather than the Superintendent and District staff and will relate to areas of Board responsibility articulated in Board Policy No. 1005.

These Board governance goals are distinct from District Goals and Guardrails adopted under Board Policy Nos. 0020, 0025, and 1010. Like District Goals and Guardrails, the Board’s governance goals formulated per this policy should support behaviors aligned with improving student outcomes.

Board Self-Evaluation

The Board will complete quarterly self-evaluations that produce a measurable score for Board performance and provide the Board with clarity about its strengths and weaknesses relative to the Board’s governance goals, responsibilities, and functions. The results of Board self-evaluations will be used in setting subsequent governance goals and guardrails and planning for Board training and professional development.
