Aligned Community Partners in School

The Community Alignment Initiative is a framework that guides how schools and school-based before and after school licensed child care programs, community learning centers, and school-based health centers work collectively to support the academic pursuits, social and emotional development, and overall well-being of students.

Alignment is when schools and school-based programs form an intentional partnership that is mutually supportive, and centers students and families. The activities resulting from that partnership should reflect, holistically, the developmental needs of youth. Effective Alignment happens in an equity-rich environment where programs are active partners with the school, families, and community resources.

Use of school space for aligned programs is contingent on the providers submitting an annual Alignment Partnership Packet on time for review. If approved, the provider is granted program space in the school for reduced rent or rent-free for another year subject to the terms and conditions of their lease or school use permit.

Community Learning Centers

Community Learning Centers (CLC) are Out-of-School Time (OST) programs coordinated by Seattle Parks and Recreation staff professionals, based out of Seattle Public School sites and offered during after school, lunchtime, school breaks (Mid-Winter, Spring) and Summer. OST programs encompass a variety of academic, enrichment, recreational, culturally specific and family engagement events and activities, developed in collaboration with school staff, school-based partners, and other community based organizations catering to the unique dynamics and needs of each schools’ community.  CLC’s are funded through the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy along with grants from Best Start for Kids (King County) and Youth Development Executives of King County (YDEKC). More information at Seattle Parks & Recreation.
