There are many opportunities to keep students learning over the summer break!
Check out summer opportunities to keep students engaged and connected with peers. We have gathered SPS summer learning information and many community partners’ summer programs.
Families are encouraged to check with their school or childcare providers for summer programs. Be sure to check recent school newsletters or announcements from your school principal and staff for information about summer opportunities.
Elementary Summer Learning, High School Credit Recovery, and Extended School Year
Elementary Summer Learning is a referral program for students in kindergarten – 4th grade who have been identified by school staff and met eligibility criteria.
Students who were referred, found eligible, and their family completed the registration form, were assigned to their Elementary Summer Learning site. Families received summer program confirmation in April.
The SPS Elementary Summer Learning program is full and is not accepting new referred students or registration forms. Read more about Elementary Summer Learning.
High School Credit Recovery is a referral program for current 11th grade students. It offers an opportunity to recover one course (.5 credit) for graduation that the student did not pass prior to March 31, 2023. Please check with your student’s school counselor to create a plan to support your student if they need additional support or have questions about graduation requirements.
Extended School Year (ESY) is a special education program provided to some students who receive special education services. Eligibility for Extended School Year Services will be stated on the student’s IEP (individualized education program). Please check with your student’s IEP case manager for information.
Summer Skills Center, Career Connected Learning, and Summer Music
The Summer Music program is for students entering 5th-9th grade. Students must have completed at least one year of instrumental instruction. Summer Music has two locations, Jane Addams Middle School in Northeast Seattle or Aki Kurose Middle School in Southeast Seattle. The half-day music instruction runs from July 10-21. All-City Marching Band is a SPS summer music enrichment open to students entering 8th-12th grade. The All-City Marching Band brings together students from schools across Seattle to take part in summer parades and community celebrations. Read more about All-City Marching Band.
Summer Skills Center courses are open to students entering 9th-12th grade. Courses run July 10 – August 3 and are located at SPS schools across the city. Summer Skills Center classes are introductory versions of the school year courses. The application will be available in mid-to-late May. Learn more about the Summer Skills Center courses.

Academy of Interactive Entertainment, Introduction to Video Game Design
Learn about digital art, animation, and gaming at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment campus at the Seattle Armory building on the Seattle Center campus. Get acquainted with programming and create a simple video game in Unity. Students will learn about 2D animation, C# Programming, and Video Game Design.

ACT Theatre, ACT on Stage and Stage Management Camp
Performance and Stage Management camps for teens.
ACT on Stage: Dive into the four thrilling contemporary plays that will be the ACT mainstage season and discover a rich diversity of characters, settings, and styles. Hone your acting skills with this challenging material, or try your hand at direction, design, or dramaturgy.
The ACT SM Camp is a 3-day intensive that supports you wherever you are in your theatre production journey. No experience is necessary.
ACT Education programs are inclusive, fun and designed to meet and grow students at all experience levels. BAYFEST Youth Theatre, Summer Drama Training, and Performance Workshop
Classes/rehearsals will be led by some of BAYFEST’s top teaching artists, who will work with will build a performance that showcases participants’ skills in acting, movement/dance, spoken word poetry, music, and comedy. Each participant will get to work on a solo and a group piece and will be featured in at least two pieces in the performance.

Boys & Girls Clubs of King County Summer Camps
At our clubs, we offer safe, educational, and FUN summer programming for all! In this action-packed summer camp, kids will have the time of their lives. Our summer camps are safe, inclusive, engaging, and fun. Each week has a different theme: kids will participate in various activities, field trips, and make lasting friendships!

Creative Kids School Age Summer Program at John Marshall
Each week, we will participate in various learning activities (dance, art, science, and so much more) either on site with special guest visitors, or on off site field trips! We provide breakfast and snacks throughout the day for all in attendance.
Grades: K – 5th graders (minimum 5 years old)
Dates: July 3 – August 11 (Closed: July 4th and July 5)

D&G Dance, Monsters of Hiphop
Hiphop dance camp for ages 8-18. Students will learn from four different choreographers and, at the end of the camp, perform for friends and family. If you love to dance and want to make new friends, come to our camp!

Empowering Youth and Families Outreach, EYFO Summer Leadership Academy
Empowering Youth and Families Summer program will help to bridge the game in academic learning loss, provide enrichment and expose youth to careers through our career readiness program.
Grades: Pre-K to 12th grades

Cost: Sliding Scale. Parents membership fee is waived and the sliding scale goes from $0-700 for a full day 8-week program.

Middle School students may receive a small stipend Empowering Youth and Families Outreach is a multifaceted program with many offerings and transitions during the day to ensure that students do not get bored. In addition to academics, we offer enrichment classes, i.e. art, music, culinary arts, swimming, photography, dance, drama, STEM, Golf, Outdoor exploration, and career readiness. Students attend a weekly field trip to various locations and parks in the great northwest. Students receive mentoring from caring staff who strive to build meaningful relationships with each student. The Good Foot Arts Collective, Power UP Summer Enrichment
It is a four-week summer program for incoming 9th-grade scholars (Class of 2027) enrolled at Franklin High School or Rainier Beach High School. The program will prepare scholars for high school through hands-on, engaging activities, team building, physical activities, social-emotional learning, and career skill building. This program is offered in partnership with Seattle Public Schools. Upon completion, students will earn a 0.5 elective credit and ten service hours toward graduation.
Grades: Incoming 9th Graders; Priority for scholars who are current 8th graders at Aki Kurose, Mercer, and South Shore.

Hugo House, Scribes Summer Camps
Students in 5th-12th grade can explore all forms of creative writing in week-long camps while working with teachers who are also published writers themselves! Campers will explore writing through imaginative and generative activities, field trips, workshops with guest teachers, and more.
Grades: 5th – 12th graders (middle and high school students)
Dates: June 26 – August 25 Multiple week-long camps.

Location: In-person and Virtual; Most in-person camps occur at Hugo House (1634 11th Ave, Seattle, WA). Other locations include Jack Straw Cultural Center, Burke Museum, and Bellevue Arts Museum.
Cost: We offer sliding scale rates as low as 30% of the full camp rate, which depends on the time the camp lasts; plus, we provide scholarship assistance for those who need more support.

Kids Co.’s Summer Camps are fun, flexible and educational. Your one-stop-shop for summer fun. that include New themes, activities, and learning experiences each week! KUOW’s RadioActive Youth Media, RadioActive Intro to Radio Journalism Workshop
In RadioActive Youth Media’s fun, challenging, and hands-on summer workshop, teens get paid to learn radio journalism and storytelling skills, build confidence, and work with others while producing a true radio story and podcast episode. Lunch and snacks are provided for all in-person days. Yes, youth are paid $1,000 for completing the program.
No previous journalism experience is necessary. We prioritize youth who are not already part of other journalism, arts, and media programs. If you’ve never done something like this before, we encourage you to apply.
You should apply if: you’re engaged in the world. You’re curious and always asking questions. You love writing and want to try telling true stories through sound. You want to share all sides of a story as a journalist — this workshop is NOT a platform to promote a cause, organization, or point of view.
Grade: 9th-12th grades. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Must be 15-18 years old. Cost: Free

The Museum of Flight
The Museum of Flight has three summer camps, two for high school students and one for elementary and middle school students.
Private Pilot Ground School and Aeronautical Explorations
The following course offerings are for high school students. Students can earn free high school credit through this opportunity!
Private Pilot Ground School (PPGS) is a course for students who want to be professional pilots or earn their Private Pilot License. This fast-paced, intensive course includes the fundamentals of being a being a pilot and provides students with the foundation of knowledge needed to pass the FAA private pilot written exam – aerodynamics, flight systems, weather, etc.
Aeronautical Explorations (AE) is an exploratory course for students who are or might be interested in a future in the aviation industry and may not know exactly the pathway to pursue. The program will expose students to many different careers in the aviation industry, including air traffic control, airline dispatch, professional pilot, airport management, unmanned aerial systems, and more. (Because this is a public school class, we are only able to serve residents of Washington state.)

Aerospace Camp Experience (ACE) is an award-winning day camp for any child who is excited about scientific pursuits. All activities facilitate learning through exploration and fun. So if your child has an inquiring mind and wants to have fun exploring the world of STEM this summer, ACE is the camp for you!

Northwest Film Forum and Three Dollar Bill Cinema: Reel Queer Youth
Reel Queer Youth is a 7-day program starting August 7 that provides queer and trans filmmakers ages 13-18 to make their first project! Featuring hands-on training, world class speakers, and lessons designed to spark creativity, Reel Queer Youth provides a safe space for young queer filmmakers to explore their passions with other like-minded creators and receive valuable advice from positive and supportive film professionals.

Phinney Neighborhood Association Whittier Kids
PNA’s Whittier Kids Summer Camp offers fun and enriching experiences in a welcoming and caring environment. A variety of kid-approved weekly themes provide opportunities for making new friends while building social confidence and leadership skills.

Rain City Rock Camp Summer Camp
Our week-long Summer Camp sessions use music education and positive aspects of rock music culture to provide a safe and welcoming space for campers to learn more about themselves, the creative process, and their potential to be heard. The session culminates in a showcase performance at The Crocodile. . This camp is for gender-marginalized youth- including girls, non-binary youth, and trans youth.

Theater of Possibility Summer Youth Camp
Two-week half day theater program for neurodiverse youth, ages 9-16. 17+ inquire about being junior counselor. We welcome youth with autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergencies or developmental differences, as well as typically developing peers. We build on strengths, and each student is valued for their unique gifts. Participants must be able to participate independently in structured group activities or come with an adult aide. TOP teaches beginning acting, improv and play-creation through fun theater games, with a focus on collaboration skills. Culminates in a showcase of ensemble-created original short plays.

Young Shakespeare Workshop First Year Summer Program
Learn to act Shakespeare from the ground up – sonnets, speeches, scenes, voice, and fencing. Returning Students go on to produce full length plays. Nationally awarded program.

Young Women Empowered
We offer five free summer camps: BIPOC Horse Camp, Y-WE Create, Black Girls/NB Bike, Y-WE Write, and Black Mermaids. Each program has a different description but includes BIPOC Horse camp designed specifically for youth who identify as BIPOC, Black Girls/NB Bike, and Black Mermaids specifically for youth who identify as Black. All programs are for youth ages 13-19 who identify as girl, nonbinary, trans, or gender expansive.
Grades: 8th – 12th graders, ages 13 – 19, (middle and high schoool students)
