Personal Message

My name is Alessandro Scilletta and I was born in New York City.  I moved to Seattle 4 years ago from NYC where I taught chemistry, biology and physics for 6 years in the South Bronx, Harlem and Hell's kitchen.  Prior to becoming a teacher, I served 10 years in the Air Force (4 active duty and 6 years in the Air National Guard) where I worked at a Boom Operator and a Computer, Cryptography, Network and Switching systems technician.

I absolutely love being a science teacher!  Getting to geek out about science (and set off the occasional fire alarm) with our wonderful students is an amazing privilege.  I would do this job for free if I could.

Biography

My goal in life and work is to consistently grow into a better version of myself. I believe in critical consciousness and social justice and the power of relationships to enrich our lives and work.

I'm really into all kinds of art with a particular passion for drawing, painting, film, animation, and music. I am also way into video games and probably know more about video games than your kids.

Lastly, sushi is the best, steak is second, Chinese food and Indian food are tied for third, and tacos and pho round out the top 5.

This is my third year at The Center School. I have been an educator for over 20 years, working as a teacher, coach, and counselor. In my early career I worked in Everett and Mukilteo, and then moved to Las Vegas and worked in the Clark County school District. I moved backed to the Pacific Northwest seven years ago and worked at University Prep in Admissions for five years.

I received my bachelor's degree from Washington State University, where I also was a member of the Women's track and field team. I earned my Master's degree while working and taking care of my family at the University of Phoenix in Las Vegas, Nevada. I have a twenty four year old son and a fiancé who is a teacher in Seattle Public Schools.

I enjoy the outdoors when it's warm, reading, and meeting other people's dogs.
