Steel, Signatures, and Community Spirit Mark Key Phase in Construction
Summary: Memorial Stadium redevelopment project as community leaders, project partners, and SPS celebrated the raising of the final structural beam
Community Gathers to Celebrate Memorial Stadium Construction Milestone
The Seattle Public Schools’ (SPS) Memorial Stadium redevelopment project reached a major construction milestone recently, as the final structural beam was raised into place, as the project enters its final year until completion.
Project partners, donors, and community leaders joined SPS Superintendent Ben Shuldiner at the Memorial Stadium Topping Out celebration on Sept. 25, along with Sellen Construction crew members, several of whom are SPS alumni. In addition to Superintendent Shuldiner, other speakers at the event included Seattle Center Acting Director Randy Engstrom, Sellen Construction CEO Scott Redman, and Seattle Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke.
Led by Seattle Public Schools, the City of Seattle and One Roof Sports & Entertainment, alongside construction partner Sellen, this unique public-private partnership is helping preserve Memorial Stadium’s legacy while creating a new state-of-the-art venue for generations to come.
There’s still plenty of work ahead, but the topping out ceremony celebrates just how far this project has come, and the many hands that have helped build its next chapter.
