Canoe Journey 2023

Canoe Journey is more than an event–it represents Coast Salish past, present, and future all at once. This year canoes traveling from all over the Salish Sea and interior rivers will make their way to Alki on July 30. Some will have traveled more than 400 nautical miles by canoe! Everyone is welcome!

Canoe Families will usually start from a location nearest their tribe or clan. They will spend the year planning their trip, estimating the number of days it will take to get to the landing of the host tribe. This year, they will land at Alki to honor their Muckleshoot hosts.

Video features Calina Lawrence singing in twulshootseed about the importance of the Canoe. Though you may not be able to understand the words, the significance is clear.
