RE: Tax Treatment of Donations to the District

To Whom It May Concern:
This document provides general information on the Federal tax status of Seattle Public Schools. It is limited in scope, and you should contact your own tax advisor before making any contribution decisions based on this information.

Seattle Public Schools is a governmental entity as defined in Section 115 of the Internal Revenue Code. It is not an exempt organization as defined in Section 501 of the Code.

Donations to the district may qualify as charitable contributions as described in Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code; however, this section has a number of conditions and limitations that you should review carefully and/or review with your own tax advisor.
