2025-26 School Board Student Representatives

School Board Student Representatives represent the voices of students in Seattle Public Schools by participating in regular school board meetings and contributing student insight to board discussions. They serve as a liaison between students and the Board, offering perspectives on district issues and needs, reporting on their work and committee activities, and communicating topics of student interest or concern.

While they do not vote or hold board offices, School Board Student Representatives are encouraged to engage in discussions, ask questions, and help ensure student perspectives are included in district decision-making.

Policy 1250 is a Seattle Public Schools policy that formally establishes the role of Student Board Representatives and outlines how students participate in school board governance.

This policy ensures that student perspectives are included in district-level discussions and decision-making.

As Student Representatives, we have been working to revise the policy to create a more sustainable and functional role for future students to take on.

Student representatives serve as a direct link between students and the School Board. They can help elevate student concerns, bring forward ideas for improving schools, and ensure student perspectives are considered in district decisions.

You might reach out if you have concerns, ideas, or feedback about your school experience such as student life or school policies. Student representatives are there to listen to student experiences and bring those perspectives to the School Board.

Student representatives are selected through an application and interview process. Applicants are current high school sophomores students who demonstrate leadership, commitment to representing diverse student voices, and interest in district-wide issues. The Student Selection Committee, a group of students across Seattle Public Schools review and read applications and are present during the interview process.

Student representatives are typically selected on an annual basis, with two new high school juniors joining two seniors who have served the previous year.
