Seattle Public Schools Releases Diagnostic Analysis to Inform Draft Strategic Plan

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) has released a comprehensive diagnostic analysis of how resources—people, time, and funding—are allocated across the district. This report, developed in partnership with Education Resource Strategies (ERS), provides a clear, accessible look at current patterns and identifies opportunities to improve equity and student outcomes. The findings will inform the draft 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. Read the full Diagnostic Analysis to Inform Draft Strategic Plan report.

SPS partnered with ERS, a national nonprofit with deep expertise in school system budgeting and strategy, to conduct a diagnostic analysis that examines how resources are allocated and how those investments shape student and staff experiences. The report draws on a wide range of data, including district budgets, staffing, student outcomes, and educator and community perception. It highlights both strengths and areas for improvement, with a focus on equity and sustainability.

This diagnostic is especially important as SPS transitions to new leadership and develops its draft strategic plan for 2025–2030. The analysis serves as a starting point for the Board, new superintendent, and community to focus on key challenges and opportunities.

The School Board discussed the diagnostic at a public Work Session on September 24, 2025. You can watch the board work session on the SPSTV YouTube channel.
