District Guardrails
The Board adopts these District Guardrails consistent with Board Policy No. 1010, Oversight and Progress Monitoring:
- The Superintendent will not allow a student’s school assignment, family income, race or ethnicity, need, or identity to determine access to high standards, rigorous programming, high-quality teaching, and supports.
- The Superintendent will not allow the existence of any learning environments that do not promote physical and emotional safety.
- The Superintendent will not allow adult behaviors in school buildings and classrooms that are misaligned with the anti-racist values of Seattle Public Schools, including the use of curricula, materials, and practices that are inconsistent with those values.
- The Superintendent will not make major decisions or bring major recommendations to the Board without first implementing an engagement strategy that includes students, parents, teachers, and community members.
- The Superintendent will not allow people, time, money, and other resources to be allocated in a manner inconsistent with student need.
