Native Education Update

Staffing:
1. Fulfilled the high school graduation coordinator position that has been unfilled for around 2 years! Patrick Narajo will be starting on Monday 11/17/25 with his onboarding.
2. We are very close to fulfilling the IA position at Nathan Hale for the šǝqačib class to support Levi Harter.
3.We are still waiting on the Native Ed library position to be posted. Hopefully that will happen soon.
Suquamish Partnership:
1.Collaboration with Suquamish for Ocean to Table and Chief Kitsap Academy tribal school. Students are involved in the processes of traditional and commercial fishing. SPS staff were able to be a part of the processing that students in the šǝqačib class would participate in next year.
o Identifying that there will need to be more flexibility in supporting our students in joining in this collaboration outside of a “bell schedule” and embrace the natural world’s timeline.
2. Students at Chief Kitsap in exchange want to experience the daily life of a native student in a big urban school.
Holiday Preparation / Support:
1. Reaching out to nonprofits, Muckleshoot, City of Seattle funds, and canoe organization to support our organization and provide available funds to families as needed and available.
2. Turkeys will not be provided to families.
3. Toys for Tots: Save the date!
Pickup: December 6
Toys are on their way and will be stored with Georgina until distribution.
4. Location and Distribution: Robert Eagle Staff Middle School on December 18th
5. Nick Barry to be our Santa again
6. Dinner served so an RSVP will be sent out ahead to get a head coun, anticipating around 150 people (similar to last year)
7. Crafts, activities, and a game station for family enjoyment. Maybe a family tree decorating competition. Lots of brainstorming!
8. Five 8th Gen Blankets as a possible raffle for families. TBD
Family Communication
1. We will continue to communicate through email to protect families privacy and interests to prevent any FERPA issues.
2. We are exploring other protected methods for communication with our families outside of TalkingPoints.
Rezzcon
1. Art project information will be shared with IPAC board members of the layout to accompany culture nights and activities for our families, including an art show at the end of the year. Quotes and dates are TBD to ensure they are supportive of our families needs.

Meeting ended at 7:44 p.m.

Next meeting is on December 11, 2025

We encourage all parents and guardians of Seattle Public Schools Native American and Alaskan Native Students to attend. The role of the Title Vl Native Education Parent Advisory Committee is to consult with and advise the Seattle School District on the development and operation of the Title Vl Program, assist in the development and approval of the Title Vl grant, and to help organize and conduct community cultural events, it’s important to know that the PAC helps to organize events and raise funds as well.  By serving on the PAC parents and guardians of Native American/Alaskan Native Students in Seattle Public Schools can help decide the program goals and activities.
