Our Classroom is dedicated to explorative learning and supporting each other.
This means that it is our goal in the Octopus Garden to becoming more intellectually, socially, and culturally well rounded individuals. We are a community of learners in the classroom. My expectation for my students is that they work hard to improve. Mistakes are ok; it is how we learn and we cannot learn without trying. I also expect my students, and myself, to be respectful of each other, of others outside of the classroom, and to embody the Pathfinder Charter. In our classroom we respect all family types and will work to affirm that every child’s family type is normal, wonderful, and full of love. It is our wish that every family feel welcome, be visible, respected, and informed
This is my 17th year teaching and my 7th year at Pathfinder. Inspired by my work in preschool and Montessori classrooms with young learners, I intended to earn my teaching degree to teach a primary grade. My student-teaching included a quarter in a fifth grade classroom and I discovered the fun in teaching older students. Once I graduated from the University of Portland with my M.A.T, I taught in intermediate bilingual Spanish classrooms for two years in eastern Washington. I then moved back to Seattle and taught fifth grade at Highland Park and West Seattle Elementaries. I finally “graduated” to sixth grade and have been loving this exciting year with my students ever since. I enjoy making 6th grade a fun and memorable year for them.
