Seattle Public Schools (SPS) remains committed to reaching an agreement and welcoming students back to school as quickly as possible.
If there is a strike, SPS will offer as many student supports and activities as possible, including meals, childcare, and selected events. This page provides information regarding those supports.
School Building Access
Will school buildings be open during a strike?
If a strike occurs, school will not be open for classes. However, some services will still be open and available at the school building. Please read below to learn more about available SPS supports during a strike. Families will receive updates directly from SPS regarding school operations and any schedule changes.
What if my student arrives at school for classes during a strike?
If a strike occurs, students should not go to school for classes. If a student arrives at school for class during a strike, staff will contact a parent, guardian, or emergency contact for pickup. Some services will still be open and available at the school building. Please read below to learn more about available SPS supports during a strike.
Student Meals
Will student meals be available during a strike?
Yes. Free grab-and-go meals (breakfast and lunch) will be available for students at all SPS schools on Sept. 2-4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Are student meals free?
Yes. Meals, including milk, are free for all students.
Do students need identification or paperwork?
No. Students do not need to show identification or complete paperwork to receive meals. Families with multiple students at different schools can pick up all their meals at one site. Meals are for students only.
Childcare and Student Services in SPS Buildings
Will childcare programs remain open during a strike?
These school-based childcare providers may continue operating in their designated program spaces according to existing agreements. Families should contact their childcare provider directly for the most current information and operating hours and procedures.
Will school-based health centers remain open during a strike?
These school-based health centers may continue operating in accordance with existing agreements. Families should contact their provider directly for scheduling and service information.
Athletics and Activities
Will athletics continue during a strike?
Where possible, SPS plans to continue athletic practices and competitions when adequate staffing and operational support are available. Some activities may be adjusted or canceled if these conditions cannot be met. Contact your student’s school directly for more information.

Returning to School
When will school start?
SPS is committed to starting school as soon as possible after an agreement is reached. Families will receive updates regarding start of school plans.
Will the school calendar change if there is a strike?
Yes, missed days will need to be made-up. Any changes to the school calendar, including plans for making up missed school days, will be communicated after an agreement is reached.
