Seattle Public Schools Releases Leadership Profile for Next Superintendent
Profile for next leader of Seattle Public Schools developed through community engagement presented to School Board
On Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Seattle Public Schools Board of Directors will be presented with a leadership profile for the next superintendent by executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates. The leadership profile summarizes feedback from the Seattle community following an extensive outreach process that included 29 focus groups, seven general community sessions, and an online survey (3,526 respondents).
“We are grateful for the time and thought our community put into this process. Hearing directly from parents, students, staff, community members, and our city gives the Board insight of what matters most,” said Board President Gina Topp. “That feedback will be our guide as we choose the candidate who can serve Seattle’s students and families.”
The profile highlights five characteristics for the Board to seek in a new superintendent: equity-driven and student-centered leader; strong financial and operational manager; authentic relationship builder and communicator to rebuild trust; visionary and courageous changemaker; and experienced and accountable leader.
“The traits outlined in this profile reflect both the strengths we can build on and the challenges we need to tackle as a district,” said Board President, Gina Topp. “We’re excited to meet candidates who share these values and who have the commitment and leadership to help build Seattle Public Schools into what our community deserves, a district that sets the standard for public education nationwide.”
The Board will use the leadership profile to assess superintendent candidates. Applications to be the next superintendent of Seattle Public Schools are due by Monday, Sept. 15.
