Explore Tech, Teaching, and Science Through Paid Summer Internships
Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Seattle Skills Center are teaming up to offer internship opportunities for high school students to earn both credit and compensation this summer.
Ninth grade students can explore coding and careers in tech with Tech Quest. Students interested in education can support social emotional learning among elementary-age students with Education Quest, and students can deep-dive into biology at the Allen Institute’s Open Science Quest!
Internship Opportunities
Amazon Periscope
July 13-24; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday with in-person orientation during the week of June 22
A two-week career intensive at Amazon South Lake Union campus for current 10th grade students. Students receive ongoing mentorship from Amazon leadership, earn 0.25 CTE credit, and a $400 gift card upon completion
Career Quest
July 6-30; Class on Mondays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Franklin HS; Internship Tuesday – Thursday at varying times
Students are placed at internships in a variety of fields (business, media arts, construction management) and attend class once per week, earn 0.5 CTE credit and $21.30 per hour. I-9 hiring documentation required. Participants must be 16.
June 29- July 31; 7:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., Monday – Friday; mandatory training date in late June and paperwork must be submitted by May 15
A four-week internship at an SPS elementary school, mentored by a teacher. Students support social-emotional learning for younger students, earning 0.5 CTE credit and $21.30 per hour. I-9 hiring documentation required. Participants must be 16.
May 20, 4 – 6 p.m. in-person orientation; July 7 – July 27; 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Monday – Friday
A three-week career intensive at the Allen Institute in South Lake Union during which students do a dive deep into cell biology, neuroscience, and immunology. Participants earn a $500 stipend check and 0.5 high school credit. Students must have taken biology to apply.
July 20-30; 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday through Friday
A two-week career intensive introduction to coding and tech careers at Franklin High School or nearby campus for current 9th graders. Participants earn a $500 gift card upon completion.
