Alliance for Education Teaching Awards
Summary: These honors celebrate SPS staff who are making an impact in advancing racial equity
11 SPS Educators Awarded for Advancing Educational Justice
The Alliance for Education, the local education fund supporting Seattle Public Schools (SPS), recognized 11 outstanding educators, counselors, and staff with the 2026 Philip B. Swain Excellence in Education and Adrienne Weaver Science Teaching Awards.
These honors celebrate SPS staff who are making a meaningful impact in advancing educational justice and racial equity in their classrooms and school communities. Since 1999, the endowed awards have provided flexible funding beyond traditional school budgets, helping educators expand opportunities for students.
Each recipient receives a $3,000 grant to support classroom resources, student learning, or professional development. This year’s selection process was highly competitive, with recipients chosen based on colleague and community nominations, along with demonstrated growth in school-level data.
