Director Briggs represents District 3 in Northeast Seattle, including Sand Point, View Ridge and Bryant.

She was elected to a four-year term in the November 2023 general election.

About Evan Briggs

Evan Briggs is a dedicated educational advocate and community leader, deeply invested in transforming Seattle’s school system. As a mother of three students in Seattle Public Schools (SPS), she understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities within our educational landscape. Director Briggs brings a unique blend of community engagement and a commitment to social justice. 

Her extensive involvement in community and civic action includes serving as the chair of the PTO at her children’s elementary school. This experience profoundly deepened her understanding of the systemic inequities within our school system and motivated her to run for the school board. Director Briggs’ commitment to addressing educational disparities is further reflected in her experiences running a summer program for children of East African refugees and creating a jazz program for incarcerated youth, demonstrating her belief in education as a powerful vehicle for social change. Currently, she serves as the Sand Point Elementary PTA representative on the Magnuson Park Advisory Committee. 

As a School Board member, Director Briggs is not merely focused on patching holes in the system; she aims to rewrite the narrative of what education in Seattle can and should be. Deeply committed to making Seattle’s schools more responsive, transparent, and just, Director Briggs will be a strong voice on educational equity, student mental health, and fiscal responsibility. 

Professionally, Director Briggs is an independent documentary filmmaker whose short films have premiered in film festivals nationwide. She has taught filmmaking through the Digital Media Academy in San Francisco, as well as at the Seattle Film Institute and Seattle University. Director Briggs served as the in-house videographer for Seattle Children’s for nearly a decade. Her first feature-length film, “The Growing Season,” received press coverage from numerous national and international media outlets, inspiring the Care Across Generations Act, which was first introduced on the U.S. Senate floor in May 2019. Despite being sidelined due to COVID, the bill is now being reintroduced in 2023. 

Director Briggs holds an M.F.A. in Documentary Film and Video from Stanford University and a B.A. in Literature from Duke University. She resides in the View Ridge neighborhood of NE Seattle with her husband and their three children. Director Briggs is a passionate and experienced advocate for educational transformation, leveraging her multifaceted background to drive positive change in Seattle’s schools.
