Highly Capable

Identification and Eligibility Process 2026-27

The 26-27 Highly Capable Referral process will be open October 1, 2026 through October 31, 2026. Seattle Public Schools uses universal screening for students in grades 1 and 4; no referral is needed at those two grades. Referral forms will be available on the HC website and mailed to families on October 1, 2026 for Grades 2,3, and 5-12. Kindergarten referral processes will open in the Spring of 2027.

Highly Capable Services

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) supports Highly Capable (HC) students through a range of services outlined in each school’s Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP)

New to SPS Highly Capable Fall Application Process and Timeline

Private and homeschool students are considered for SPS Highly Capable Services through a multi-step process that includes an initial application and fee (waive for eligible families), a comprehensive review of student’s academic strengths, and participating in additional assessments.
