High School Summer Credit Recovery
General Program Information:
High School Summer Credit Recovery will be hosted in partnership with Cascade Virtual Option School. Students will learn through an asynchronous learning experience offered through Imagine Learning, an online platform. SPS certificated teachers will work with every student to monitor progress toward course completion and meet in live, remote sessions with students to provide mentorship.
Eligibility Criteria
Students must meet all the eligibility criteria below to participate in this summer program.
- Students must be currently enrolled in Seattle Public Schools as of January 5, 2024.
- Students must have failed a course required for graduation prior to second semester of the 2023-24 school year.
- Students are not able to take a course for initial credit or for a credit not obtained due to a school/district transfer.
- Students must talk to their counselor to obtain a referral.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Summer Internships
Career and Technical Education works with industry and community partners to provide students with paid learning experiences during the summer! Learn more about their growing programs.
Career Quest – Career and Technical Education Summer Career Quest Internships provide students with career exploration and development opportunities. Student interns work closely with their internship host to discuss solutions and ideas while developing problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, presentation and networking skills. Students participate in a wide range of workplace activities to gain skills and knowledge for specific occupations, while being supported by weekly career development class time with a Seattle Public Schools Career Quest teacher.
Open Science Quest – In this unique class, students will participate in advanced lab activities, leaving with increased confidence in biomedical science research and data. Students will generate, analyze, and interpret scientific data and gain exposure to neuroscience, cell biology, and immunology.
Tech Quest – Tech Quest at Amazon is a 2-week summer program for SPS high school students to explore technology careers of the future. 40 students will be accepted into this program. Students earn 0.25 CTE credit and a $500 gift card stipend at completion of program. Students can expect introductory coding, project based learning and Amazon career guest speakers.
Finance Quest (Periscope) – Amazon Periscope is an immersive program that supports students from their junior year through high school graduation. Students enter as rising juniors during the summer and progress through a two-year journey designed to increase awareness and interest in finance and accounting careers prior to college matriculation while building core leadership skills. Students receive ongoing mentorship and coaching, alongside annual summer educational experiences focused on finance and accounting careers. The summer educational experience introduces students to a wide array of topics, people, and activities. This includes leveraging Microsoft Excel and its functionality, first-hand experience in the day in the life of a Financial Analyst, a personal finance workshops, and a business case study culminating in a capstone project.
