6896 Drinking Water Quality and Access

Water is an essential nutrient. Children need an ongoing water supply to keep their bodies functioning normally and to avoid dehydration. It is the policy of the Seattle Public Schools to provide all students and staff with access to ample quantities of clean, safe, aesthetically pleasing drinking water free of charge at every District facility throughout the school day.

In accordance with State law, if a water quality test result reveals a lead level in excess of 5 parts per billion, the School Board shall adopt a school action plan describing mitigation measures and a schedule of remediation activities, adhering to the technical guidance provided by the State Department of Health, and based on the availability of State or Federal funding. The public shall be provided with notice and opportunity to comment before the school action plan is adopted.
