6895 Pesticide Notification, Posting and Record Keeping

It is the policy of the Seattle School Board, consistent with State regulations, to require posted notification 48 hours prior to application of a pesticide. Notification will be posted at the main entrance to the building. In the event that a pesticide is deemed necessary, the district will make every effort to apply the pesticide during a weekend or a student break.  If students and/or staff will be present in the building within 48 hours of the planned pesticide application, a letter will be distributed to all students’ families and to staff beforehand. Occasionally, an emergency application is necessary, such as for stinging insects. In that case, posting will occur simultaneously and a letter sent out immediately.

The Superintendent is authorized to develop procedures to assure that the district complies with the law regarding pesticide notification, posting and record keeping.

Upon request, the district will provide notification to staff and parents of the district’s pest control policies, methods and its posting and notification requirements.
