Seattle Public Schools

6600 Student Transportation

It is the policy of the Seattle School Board to provide transportation for eligible students, as determined by the Board-adopted Transportation Service Standards. The Board-adopted Transportation Service Standards shall be reviewed annually for implementation at the start of the next school year.

The district’s transportation program will comply in all ways with state law and regulations. Transportation services of the district may include approved to-and-from school routes, district-approved field trips, and extracurricular activities.  A comprehensive school trip safety program will address school walk routes, district provided transportation safety and route plans, vehicle access to the school, circulation and parking at the school, pedestrian circulation on and around the school campus, and safety education and enforcement.

The Board delegates to the Superintendent all other authority and responsibility for transportation within the budgets approved by the Board. The Superintendent may delegate such authority to Transportation staff or other designees as the Superintendent deems appropriate. The Superintendent is authorized to develop procedures to implement this policy.
