3131 District Attendance Area Transfers

It is the policy of the Seattle School Board that each new student to the district be assigned to the school designated for the geographic attendance area in which he or she resides. However, the district also has a school choice component under the Student Assignment Plan.

A parent/guardian may request that his or her child be allowed to attend another school in the district. Requests must be submitted through school choice procedures in place at the time of the initial assignment or during designated transfer periods. Secondary students who request attendance area transfers who participate in extra-curricular activities are subject to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s eligibility rules.

A student who moves to a new attendance area in the district during the school year may elect to transfer at the time of the move, at the end of the semester or grading period, or at the end of the school year.

Transfer exceptions may be granted under specific conditions such as Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying, Section 504, and Employee’s Children (Policy Nos. 3207, 2162, and3111)

The district will make available the Student Assignment Plan and the Superintendent’s Procedures for Student Assignment for public inspection.
