6670 Emergency Transportation

Emergency transportation, as defined for student transportation purposes, is the use of taxicabs or other available modes provided for students who must return home, or another designated place from school, as a result of an illness, accident, or family emergency situation.

  1. Emergency transportation will be provided for students when parents/guardians, neighbors, friends, relatives, or school staff personnel cannot provide transportation home.
  1. Emergency transportation is provided from the school to home. It is effective on the day of the emergency.

The Transportation Office should be contacted only after all other possibilities have been exhausted. Emergency transportation requests entail considerable carrier expense which, if other means are used, could be avoided or greatly reduced.

The decision to send a student home for emergency reasons must be made by the principal, nurse, or designated representative. Telephone requests to the Transportation Office will be accepted only from these individuals. Before requesting emergency transportation, the school must assure that a responsible person is at home to receive the student.
