6700 Distribution and Sale of Competitive Foods

Recognizing that schools are uniquely positioned to provide an environment that models and reinforces healthy eating behaviors and acknowledging the strong link between healthy eating and academic success, it is the policy of the Seattle School Board that all food and beverages sold to students on the school campus, during the school day, shall meet the nutritional standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The school principal shall assure compliance with these standards for all food and beverages sold by entities and individuals other than Nutrition Services.   Nutrition Services shall assure compliance within locations under its operational responsibility.

The Superintendent is granted the authority to develop procedures to implement this policy.
