The Quakers are Kicking Off a New Era of Athletics with Girls Flag Football
Franklin High School is making history! Thanks to the Seattle Seahawks and PCL Construction, the school has received a Girls Flag Grant to launch its first-ever high school girls flag football team. This exciting milestone comes as flag football is officially recognized as a WIAA sport, opening new opportunities for female athletes across Washington.
To kick off the festivities, the Blue Thunder gave a special drumline performance, and students played fun competitions. Mario Bailey, vice president of the Seahawks’ Community Engagement and Legends, presented the team with giant check. The event ended with a raffle for Seahawks gear and prizes.

The Seahawks have long championed youth sports and inclusivity, and their support for girls flag football reflects their commitment to growing the game and empowering young athletes. Through this initiative, dozens of schools across Washington are receiving resources to start girls flag football programs, helping create a statewide movement that promotes equity, participation, and leadership in sports. By investing in these programs, the Seahawks are paving the way for more girls to compete, build confidence, and experience the camaraderie of team sports.
With this grant, Franklin High is ready to kick off a new era of athletic opportunity!
