School Board Advances Superintendent Search
Summary : Seattle School Board Advances Superintendent Search

Superintendent Search
The Seattle School Board is moving forward in its search for the next superintendent of Seattle Public Schools (SPS). The process is guided by a Superintendent Leadership Profile that reflects the voices of thousands of students, families, staff, and community members who participated in 29 focus groups across the community, seven general community sessions, and a districtwide survey earlier this year.
The profile highlights five qualities the community is looking for in the next superintendent:
- Equity-driven and student-focused – with a strong commitment to serving all students, especially those furthest from educational justice.
- Financial and operational expertise – to manage resources wisely during challenging times.
- Authentic communicator and relationship-builder – to rebuild trust through openness and accessibility.
- Visionary and courageous changemaker – ready to bring forward bold, creative ideas for the future of SPS.
- Experienced and accountable – with a proven record of results.
The Board is currently bringing the Leadership Profile back out to community to answer questions about how it will be used in the selection of the next superintendent.
A total of 41 candidates applied for the Superintendent role, reflecting both those recruited by the district’s national search firm and those who applied on their own. The applicant pool is diverse and includes leaders from across the country.
“The strong response shows how many great leaders want to come to Seattle. We’re ready to move into the next stage and get closer to choosing the right person to lead our district,” said School Board President Gina Topp.
The Board met yesterday evening to review applications and has advanced eight candidates to the next stage of the process.
