Career Discovery – Computer Science and Robotics
Career Discovery – Computer Science and Robotics
Program Overview:
In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, equipping our students with computational thinking and technical skills is not just an option—it’s a necessity. Seattle Public School’s programs are designed to inspire elementary students to become not just consumers of technology but creators and innovators shaping the 21st century.
For the 2025-26 school year, we are bringing coding to life during with an array of opportunities for our K-5 classrooms.
- First Lego League – Building on this year’s success, over 40 SPS FIRST LEGO League teams will develop programming and research skills this coming fall as they prepare for a December competition at Ballard High School.
 - Hour of Code – Over 120 classrooms will experience Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week (Dec 8th – Dec 14th) with industry professionals from Amazon, Microsoft, Minecraft, and Code.org.
 - BootUp CS Training – Finally, we’re pulling together our 3rd cohort of 50 elementary teachers who can up for specialized training with BootUp PD, as we work to integrate computer science across our schools, building educator capacity in teaching computational thinking.

Why Computer Science Matters:
Early exposure is critical as research shows most children have already formed career interests before age 10, making elementary computer science a vital foundation for future success. Living in a tech hub like Seattle gives our students a unique advantage, and we’re committed to ensuring they’re prepared for the high-paying, tech-driven careers that define this region’s economy. Through empowerment and innovation, we strive to help every student see themselves as confident creators and problem-solvers in a digital world.
