December 14 Information Session for Families About Sexual Assault Prevention
Seattle Public Schools is offering an information session for families about sexual assault prevention, education, and district policies and practices in responding to reports alleging sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Guest speakers will include staff from the district’s Health Education Department, Office of Student Civil Rights, and Harborview Abuse and Trauma Center.
Please join us for the virtual informational session at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14 via Zoom (please see meeting details below). Interpretation will be provided for Spanish, Somali, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Amharic languages.
Background: Over the last few years, staff have been working with a community task force to review how the district responds to reports of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, often referred to as Title IX, is a Federal civil rights law. Title IX, which began with a focus on discrimination and ensuring equity in sports was recently revised to include information on how public school districts respond to reports of sexual harassment (which includes allegations of sexual assault).
You can find information related to Title IX, what it is, what your student’s rights are, and how to get help or file a complaint on our Office of Student Civil Rights webpage.
