Transcript Delay for High School Seniors

Seattle Public Schools experienced technical difficulties with our online student information system, PowerSchool, in late January and February. This has delayed the entering of final grades for the first semester of 2019-20.

The College and Career Readiness team has taken the following actions to ensure high school seniors are still able to meet their college application needs:

    • A district letter explaining the transcript delay was sent to all four-year in-state colleges, as well as Seattle Colleges and Seattle Promise. It was also sent to the admissions offices at approximately 1700 colleges, including the colleges and universities in which students indicated interest via Naviance.
    • An official notice was posted in the Naviance community forum in the Admissions group, which includes members from colleges and other institutions across the country.
    • A communication was sent to all Seattle Public Schools counselors, registrars, and principals about the system outage, timeline change, grade marking, and high school transcripts.
    • Special instructions were sent to district counselors to assist students with immediate transcript needs.

    Projected Timeline and Next Steps

Families should check with their student’s school regarding the availability of final first semester transcripts and report cards as individual schools will have the most up-to-date information. Most school staff will return from Mid-Winter Break on Feb. 24 and can share updates then. Transcript completion is being prioritized at each high school and we anticipate that all schools will be ready to distribute transcripts and report cards by Mar. 2, though many schools may be ready before then.

If a college reaches out to you for additional information, prior to final grades being available, you can use the Source to provide some preliminary grade information from first semester.

    1. Log in to the Source.
    2. Click on the “Grade History” menu option to view last semester's grades.
    3. Either click PDF to save a file or print a screenshot.

When responding to the college, be sure to include the following message. “Please note that the attached grades are not the final semester grades and may differ from the official transcript once grading has been completed by the school. Mid-term grades will be provided as soon as they are available.”
