McClure Middle School Choral Director Aimee Mell Named ICEP Conducting Fellow

Aimee Mell, McClure Middle School choral director, has been selected as a conducting fellow for the 2019 International Conductors Exchange Program (ICEP) with South Africa. One of six United States conducting fellows, Mell will represent the American Choral Directors Association in the 2019 ICEP South Africa Exchange for 10-14 days.

Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association advocates for excellence in choral music performance. Conducting fellows operate as ambassadors for the choral profession, connecting international communities and cultures through the arts.

Mell’s highlights for the honor include her extensive repertoire directing middle and high school choirs for over 15 years, including her time at McClure Middle School where the choir program has grown five-fold since its initiation. She has served on the Washington state board of the American Choral Directors Association since 2012 and is currently the organization's repertoire and resources chair for ethnic music. Mell is also a regional vice-president for the National Association for Music Educators (WMEA).

During the South African international residency, Mell will have the opportunity to facilitate lectures, master classes, and conduct workshops and performances.

Please join Seattle Public Schools in congratulating Aimee Mell on her selection as a 2019 ACDA ICEP Conducting Fellow.
