Summer of Learning with Hamilton Middle School's Mrs. Kitzman

With the Summer of Learning is coming to a close, we want to thank the over 400 educators who supported remote learning throughout the summer! With the program held online, three times as many students were able sharpen their academic skills and adjust to learning in a remote setting.

We recently sat down with Hamilton Middle School teacher, Becky Kitzman, and talked about how summer learning has helped her adjust and refine her remote teaching strategies and how it made her excited for the fall semester. Mrs. Kitzman discussed how she had to create a community and safe space first, and then the learning became easier through a remote setting. She had to take the time to get to know her class, just like she would do in an in-person setting, and build trust with her students and then students became more engaged in learning. She also discussed the importance of social emotional learning and how having open chats with students helped them feel more comfortable, even though they were experiencing class entirely online.

Thank you to Mrs. Kitzman and all of our amazing SPS educators who have provided high quality remote learning experiences for our students.
