    Rob Gannon Appointed Seattle Public Schools Deputy Superintendent

    Interim Superintendent Brent Jones has appointed Rob Gannon as the deputy superintendent for Seattle Public Schools. Gannon began on Monday, May 3.

    "Rob will ensure that the district’s decision-making about systems, operations, and policy implementation center on the strengths and needs of our students furthest away from educational justice. He joins SPS with collaboration skills acquired and tested in complex organizations and is known for building strong teams at all levels leading to impactful contributions for the community," shared Dr. Jones when announcing the appointment.

    "His visionary leadership and ability to galvanize staff toward common goals will be critical as we prepare schools for students and staff this coming fall," added Dr. Jones.

    Gannon served previously as the general manager of King County Metro, transforming the agency and leading it to recognition as the nation's top transit agency in 2018. King County Metro Transit provides wide-ranging mobility services to residents in the metropolitan Seattle area. As the transit agency's chief executive officer, Gannon was accountable for all facets of the agency’s performance, leading the senior staff, and management of over 5,000 employees.

    Before joining King County, Gannon worked for the University of Montana in a series of senior positions, most recently as director of academic, budgets, and personnel. He reported to the provost, providing direct counsel and coordinating the efforts of the academic deans on budget and fiscal matters, human resource policy, and general administration issues affecting the state's leading university.

    During his tenure as a customer service director at, Gannon managed operations for four U.S. contact centers and carried out the customer service strategy that came to define both the enterprise and the industry.

It is more important than ever that we have strong, predictable operations as we implement plans for next school year. The success in my career has been guided by an uncompromising dedication to understanding and acting upon the needs of the people I serve. I am committed to bringing these same values to Seattle Public Schools as I support students, staff, and families," stated Gannon.

    Gannon earned his B.A. in English and Master of Public Administration from the University of Montana. He is also attended the United States Naval Academy. Rob is an avid reader. Rob has read Moby Dick eight times and is always looking for a chance to talk about great books.
