SPS Selects Incoming Director of Board Relations and Strategic Initiatives

Julia Warth will join SPS as the new director of board relations and strategic initiatives. Ms. Warth was selected for the role from an impressive pool of candidates by the interview panel who felt that her deep experience in policy analysis, relationship building, and commitment to racial justice make her an excellent fit for Seattle Public Schools.

This important role works to ensure cohesion between the Seattle School Board and SPS staff and that key initiatives are aligned to the strategic plan, Seattle Excellence. This role is tasked with ensuring effective communication and streamlined project management between board directors and staff and that board meetings are in compliance with legal statutes.

Ms. Warth joins SPS from the League of Education Voters (LEV) where she served as the director of policy and research and was responsible for managing projects related to the LEV's COVID-19 response advocacy, including leading collaborative projects with external partners on federal stimulus funds and district reopening plans. She also co-led the reestablishment of the staff Race and Equity Committee to focus on organizational commitment to and incorporation of racial equity in strategy, priority areas, and organizational culture.

"I am really excited to join Seattle Public Schools and to be a part of reimagining a school system in which education is a tool for liberation and creating a more just world," said Ms. Warth. "I look forward to supporting the district and school board's commitment to racial justice and a bright future for all students."

Her first day will be on December 1 and she will begin her work focused on building relationships with leadership and the school board directors.
