SPS Employee Access to the COVID-19 Vaccine

The Department of Health (DOH) issued a revised vaccine distribution schedule on January 18 that explicitly includes K-12 educators and staff. Please refer to the DOH schedule to confirm the Phase and tier in which you become eligible. Most SPS staff will be eligible for vaccination as part of Phase 1B, tiers 1-4.

Which SPS Staff are Eligible Right Now?

    • School nurses are eligible as part of Phase 1A, tier 1.
      • Open now
    • Educators/staff who are 65 or older OR who are 50 and older who live in a multi-generational home are included in Phase 1B, tier 1.
      • Open now
    • Educators/staff who are 50 years or older are included in Phase 1B, tier 2.
      • Not open yet
    • Educators/staff who have 2 or more underlying conditions are included in Phase 1B, tier 3.
      • Not open yet
    • Educators/staff regardless of age are included in Phase 1B, tier 4.
      • Not open yet

We recommend that staff use the DOH Phase Finder Tool to confirm vaccination eligibility and to receive alerts when new 1B tiers open. Public Affairs will also communicate directly with staff via robocall, text, and email as new tiers open. We are unable to provide individual guidance on an employee's eligibility Phase and tier.

How to register for the vaccine series

You may schedule an appointment at any COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the state. Visit DOH's online Washington state clinic locator to find a clinic nearest you.

Once you have registered for a vaccination date and time you will be provided additional information about your appointment. Both FDA emergency approved vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech) require two shots.

Please remember broad distribution of the vaccine and the infrastructure to support it are still under development by the new federal administration and our state. Vaccine access continues to be a fluid situation. As availability of the vaccine series increases, so will appointment times for staff and our broader community. Please do not show up to a vaccination site without an appointment. All vaccinations need to be scheduled and confirmed.

Throughout the pandemic we have prioritized the health and safety of our staff, students, and families. We will continue to keep you informed as we learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and access for our staff.
