    Seattle Education Association Members Approve 3-Year Contract

    Seattle Education Association (SEA) educators approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement (CBA) Tuesday, August 27.

    Thank you to the hard-working joint bargaining team. Seattle Public Schools and SEA leadership and educators have been bargaining since May. Together, the team crafted a strong contract centered on supporting all of our 53,000 students.

    We know that having great educators in our classrooms leads to student success, so a consistent priority during negotiations has been educator compensation. This contract will help us retain and attract great educators, which include paraprofessionals, substitutes, and office professionals, to Seattle Public Schools. Other mutual priorities in the contract include:

    • Expansion of school-based racial equity teams;
    • Expansion of social and emotional supports including increased nurses and counselors; and
    • Additional professional development opportunities for all of our educators, with a focus on racial equity, addressing implicit bias and disrupting institutional racism, and improving the learning conditions for students of color, those furthest away from educational justice.

    Our staff work incredibly hard every day supporting our students and families. It’s the district’s job to support our educators. We are excited about the approved contract and look forward to welcoming 1st – 12th grade students back to school on September 4, and kindergarten students on September 9.
