School Board Approves Changes to Some Middle School Attendance Area Boundaries

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, the Seattle School Board approved changes to the attendance area boundaries for Mercer International Middle School, Aki Kurose Middle School, and Washington Middle School, beginning with the 2021-22 school year.

Changes were needed to address the over-enrollment at Mercer.

The approved scenario changes the Mercer attendance area boundary so that the Hawthorne elementary feeder area attends Aki Kurose Middle School and the Kimball elementary feeder area attends Washington Middle School when students move to grade 6.

Grandfathering and other mitigations have been included in this decision to help with the transition. Read more about Mercer Middle School boundary changes.
