    Students Thrive with FareStart Culinary Partnership

    Spotlight on FareStart

    Every eight weeks, students from the district's Interagency Academy trade in their more traditional classroom instruction for julienning shallots, chiffonading basil, and dicing carrots inside the kitchen at non-profit, culinary organization, FareStart.

    The program is only open to students at Interagency and offers them equal parts job skills and life skills. Students who graduate from the program leave with a confidence they can successfully enter and survive the high-speed, high-reward, culinary world.

    FareStart began their non-profit work teaching the Seattle's homeless job skills to help them get back on their feet. Their work with students is relatively new, but still rooted in FareStart's three core beliefs. Food is central to emotional, physical, and economic well-being. People have incredible capacity to transform their lives when they have the right tools and support. And solutions that provide real value to a community have the best hope of lasting.
