    Our Students Come First

Our vision is for every child to experience a high-quality, joyful learning environment that will provide the strong foundation needed to succeed in school and life.

We believe high quality instruction, student-focused collaboration, and equitable access to educational opportunities is the formula for success. We hold high expectations for all students and intentionally promote participation in all learning and social activities. Through rigorous and relevant curriculum and approaches that align to standards, we provide measurable outcomes and positive relationships for every child.

    Our Goals for Children Include:
    • A sense of belonging, positive social relationships, whole child development and academic learning to reach their full potential.
    • To learn through active involvement with people, materials, events and ideas that are developmentally appropriate.
    • To become independent, responsible and confident, so that all children are ready for school and ready for life.
    • To gain knowledge and skills in academic, social and physical objectives for development and learning.

    Whole Child Development and Learning

Seattle Public Schools utilizes Teaching Strategies Gold developmental assessments to track student progress and outcomes, and align with the state's Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS). The Year 2 Seattle Public Preschool Impact Report disclosed positive student outcomes and annual gains that outperformed national comparisons.

    Family Engagement

Seattle Public Schools is committed to deepening partnerships with families and recognize that our students' parents and caregivers are the first and foremost teachers in their life. The Family Connection component of WaKIDS provides an opportunity for families to meet individually with their child's teacher during the first three days of school. Families are welcome to participate in our programming and we encourage you to share your family's traditions and culture with our students and staff to support student learning and sense of belonging.

    Commitment to Equity

Goal 1, Strategy 3 of Seattle Public Schools Strategic Plan includes a Commitment to Early Learning as the foundation for future academic success and a strategy for closing opportunity gaps. Seattle Public Preschool classrooms are racially diverse and serving a majority of low- and middle-income families. Ten of our classrooms are in Title I schools.
