    Spring 2020 Update
    Posted on 05/04/2020

Advanced learning programs and services are being reviewed to improve our offerings. This analysis is central to the critical equity work of our district. Superintendent Juneau called together the Highly Capable/Racial Equity Services Advisory Committee (HC/RESA) in February 2020. HC/RESA will further guide this work following the Advanced Learning Task Force recommendations that were delivered in Winter 2020. This effort will result in improved services for all SPS students.

Analysis of our current service model continues, at a slower pace due to COVID-19. In April 2020, HC/RESA committee members began reading on the topic of racial equity. They also familiarized themselves with the task force recommendations. Virtual meetings will begin in May and continue monthly. Educators and specialists within the Advanced Learning department are researching and developing future plans, guided by the recommendations of the Advanced Learning Task Force Leading research and SPS student data also direct our thinking.

The current model of service delivery remains in place for the 2020/2021 school year. Testing will continue this fall, with possible modification due to COVID-19. We will share draft policy revisions with the School Board and Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction (CAI) committee in Spring, 2020. Timelines are subject to change, due to COVID-19.

The voice of families, students, and community partners is vital to this process. Please follow along here for news and updates, and as always, reach out to us if you have any questions.
