    Description

    Seattle Public Schools has had an archive since 1978. For more information about what is in the Archives, go to the District Archives website. To request public records, go to the Public Records Requests website.

    What do I need to do to get this service?

    Access to the Archives is by appointment Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am – 4:30 pm. Please arrange 24 hours in advance for an appointment by submitting a request to archives@seattleschools.org.

    Please include your phone number or email so we can contact you to confirm your appointment or notify you of any changes.

    What is included?

    • The archive has finding aids and experienced research assistance, Xerox and scanners available for copying records. Researchers must provide their own media, but are welcome to use Wi-Fi, their own cameras and equipment.

    • If research requests can be fulfilled in less than 30 minutes, then the archivist can answer the research questions. For more difficult research questions, the requestor must make an appointment or arrange payment for research assistance.

    • For borrowing artifacts for alumni reunions, please make an appointment.

    When is support for the service available?

    Support is available on a limited basis, depending upon the availability of the archivist and how many requests have already been received.

    How long does it take to get the service?

    Archivist will respond within 5 business days acknowledging receipt of request, or within 24 hours acknowledging an appointment.

    How do I change or stop the service?

    How much does the service cost?

    Photocopies: $0.15 per page
    Scanning: $5.00 per image
    Research Services provided for out of area patrons: $30.00 per hour, pre-paid
    Audio copies (includes tape): $5.00
    Artifact Loan Preparation: $30.00

     

    Explanation of Charges:

    Research Fees:
    The Archives charges a fee for research services prorated on salary benefit and overhead costs with a half-hour minimum (WAC 434-690-080, Section 4). Research services are defined as the collection, assembly or extraction of data or information from existing records, or the analysis of information to provide a report. The standard fee for research services is $30.00 per hour. Research services may be limited to one hour, depending on the staffing level and current workload of the Archives. In such cases, patrons will be referred to an independent researcher for assistance.

    Paper and Magnetic Media Copies:
    Archives may impose a reasonable charge for providing copies of public records, regardless of media, and for the use by any person of division equipment to copy public records. Charges shall not exceed the amount necessary to reimburse the Division for its actual costs incident to such copying (WAC 434-690-080, Section 3).
