    Changes Approved for 2018-19

At the Jan. 17, 2018, meeting, the Seattle School Board approved boundary changes to the Genesee Hill and Lafayette elementary school boundaries. This change moves part of the current Genesee Hill attendance area to be in the Lafayette attendance area.

The change will be implemented in fall 2018. To minimize disruption, all students currently attending Genesee Hill will be grandfathered, with transportation for those outside of the walk zone. Grandfathered students will automatically be assigned to Genesee Hill for their remaining grades.

Changing the boundary helps address the capacity challenges at Genesee Hill Elementary. The right-size capacity for Genesee Hill is 660 students. The 2017-18 enrollment is 718. Nearby Lafayette Elementary has space for additional students.

A community meeting was held on Oct. 27, 2017, to share draft scenarios for new boundaries. During the presentation, scenarios C, D, and E were discussed.
