    Changes Proposed for 2018-19

Changes are being proposed to address the capacity challenges at Genesee Hill Elementary. The right-size capacity for Genesee Hill is 660 students. The 2017-18 enrollment is 718. Nearby Lafayette Elementary has space for additional students.

A boundary change is proposed to move part of the current Genesee Hill Elementary attendance area to be in the Lafayette Elementary attendance area. This will better balance enrollment at both schools. The proposed changes would be implemented for the 2018-19 school year. Grandfathering will be recommended for students currently attending Genesee Hill Elementary.

Ultimately the Seattle School Board will make the decision on boundary changes and grandfathering.

A community meeting was held on Oct. 27, 2017, to share draft scenarios for new boundaries. During the presentation, scenarios C, D, and E were discussed.

Scenario F has been developed based on community and school feedback and has been reviewed by leaders at the district offices and at the schools. This is the scenario that was presented to the School Board Operations Committee on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017.
