    Benefits of Working at Seattle Public Schools

    Total Compensation

    SPS employees enjoy compensation that goes beyond salary—health, retirement, wellness services, sick and personal days, professional development.     Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Long Term Disability Plan

    District employees are automatically covered by a group dental plan, vision plan and life/long term disability plan and may participate in a choice of medical plans. All employees who work more than .5 but less than 1.0 receive prorated health benefits equal to their current FTE.

    A new state law takes effect on January 1, 2020, and all Washington State K-12 school employees will begin receiving health insurance and benefits through the statewide School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Program. For more information, visit the SEBB Benefits page.

    Sick Leave

    ​​Full-time SPS Employees earn one sick day per month (teachers' sick days are front loaded at the start of each school year).

    Hourly employees and subs earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.

    Vacation

    Employees​​ who work 260+ days accrue vacation days per their collective bargaining agreements. Non-represented employees earn between 15-28 days vacation depending upon their job classification and years of service.

    Professional Development

    In Seattle Public Schools, we aspire to provide high quality professional development to affect teacher practice and student learning. Our professional development efforts provide support for teachers, school leaders, administrators and support staff to help them enhance student achievement and close the opportunity gap.
