Online applications for Seattle Skills Center's free summer courses are now available. Summer Skills Center courses are open to all incoming Seattle Public Schools' 9th-12th graders.

Courses range from an exploration of aerospace technology, where students learn how to build, service and modify aircraft and aircraft components, to an introduction to recording arts (pictured above), where students gain familiarity with sound equipment operation and maintenance while exploring music, dialogue and sound effects recording.

While these classes are great for any of our high school students, they can be especially helpful to current 8th-grade students to help them transition to high school and get a head start on earning credits.

    Students can:

    • Earn .5 high school Career and Technical Education credit
    • Learn new skills that might lead to a more focused experience in college and career
    • Meet new friends

The summer program will run weekdays, July 9 through Aug. 3 from 11:30 a.m. until 4:15 p.m., at several locations. Orca cards or bus tokens will be available.
