    About Zachary DeWolf

Director DeWolf represents District V, which includes Capitol Hill, International District, First Hill, Leschi, Madison, downtown and the Central Area. He was elected to a four-year term in the November 2017 general election.

Zachary DeWolf is a citizen of the Chippewa Cree Nation of Rocky Boy, Montana, a graduate of Western Washington University, and formerly a program manager with All Home King County, which coordinates homelessness efforts across King County, with a specific focus on youth and student homelessness. Previously, he was Director of Communications and Education at Pride Foundation in Seattle.

An experienced community activist committed to pursuing racial, economic, gender, and social justice through service, Zachary began his career working to improve identity safety, promote cultural wellness, and increase graduation rates for Native youth in Spokane during his time at the NATIVE Project. He went on to serve his country in the Peace Corps where he improved village governance in rural communities, learned and taught Braille and opened a library at St Peter's Anglican School in Belize, and launched an LGBTQ youth group for queer and gender expansive youth. Following his two year service, he became a coordinator for the 2012 SOULFORCE Equality Ride, which fought religious and political oppression of LGBTQ students at colleges and universities across the country. He is a speaker and writer for local blogs and national publications about urbanism, community development, and native/queer issues.

He previously served as president of Capitol Hill Community Council and as a commissioner for the Seattle Housing Authority Board. Zachary also volunteered on the boards of Gender Justice League, South Seattle Emerald Community Advisory, Victory Fund & Institute, Healthcare for the Homeless Network, and 43rd District Democrats. Zachary is also a member of the Coalition to End Urban Native Homelessness, was an Institute for a Democratic Future Fellow, and created and passed two exciting laws in 2017, establishing the country's first Renters Commission and requiring landlords provide voter registration to new tenants. He has also donated time and skills to Prospect Enrichment Preschool in Capitol Hill.

In 2014, he was honored to represent the LGBTQ and Native community as 2014 Seattle Pride Parade Grand Marshal. He lives in Central District with his husband Derek and their dog Maya.
