Advanced Learning Referral Window August 28th - December 7th, 2020

    Seattle Public Schools Students

During the referral window, submitting a referral online is the first step for your student to be evaluated and considered for advanced learning programs and services.

Referrals for students currently enrolled with Seattle Public Schools are completed online on the parent portal called the Source.

Refer your student on the Source.

If you need help with logging on or accessing the Source please email

    sourcesupport@seattleschools.org

Please Note: Families wishing to drop off their translated paper referral form at the John Stanford Center may do so using the South Entrance. Security will admit you to the building, you will fill out a Covid-19 attestation, and then drop off your referral in the Advanced Learning box provided.

Private, Charter, Homeschool, and Transfer Students

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Advanced Learning testing for students not currently enrolled in Seattle Public Schools has been suspended.

A new-to-Seattle family has options regarding transferring into SPS and accessing Advanced Learning services. (This includes students registered for the 2021-22 school year coming from private schools).

Option 1) If your student is transferring from another public school advanced program, you may submit documentation for evaluation.  An eligibility committee "MSC" will review the documentation and make a determination regarding eligibility for Advanced Learning or Highly Capable services. Documentation should consist of:

    • Proof of enrollment in a Public School Highly Capable or Advanced program
    • The results of testing used to place the student in the program
    • Most current achievement (math and reading) scores

Option 2) If your student is registering as a new SPS student for the 2021-22 school year, but have not participated in a public school Advanced program, you may submit the following from your school for eligibility consideration:

    • Historical Grades
    • Two most recent years of school-based assessments- such as Math and Reading scores

Families are welcome to participate in the evaluation and share what they feel would be relevant to Multidisciplinary Selection Committee to but know that without math and reading scores they are unlikely to receive a Highly Capable eligible decision.

Independent Psychological evaluations are not considered as part of an initial evaluation but may be used as part of an appeal.

For eligibility decisions by end of school year please have documentation sent in by June 1st 2021.

For eligibility decisions by start of school year, we need documentation in by August 10th 2021.

All other transfer evaluations will be completed on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Once the student is registered as an SPS student and you have submitted all requested evidence of need for Advanced Learning services, we will evaluate the documentation (Email to advlearn@seattleschools.org ) and we will advise your family of next steps.

Option 3) Enroll in your neighborhood school and participate in the 2021-22 Advanced Learning process for identification and eligibility (Process will be available on the Advanced Learning website by the start of the 2021-22 school year). Families wishing to enroll in a cohort school, only available with a Highly Capable (HC) eligibility decision, please fill out a School Choice Form during enrollment 2021-22 General School Choice form

Send all completed forms by email to: schoolchoice@seattleschools.org
