The Health Center, which is staffed with a
Nurse Practitioner and a Mental Health Counselor, provides
all the services (and more) that your family doctor provides
and does so in a teen friendly setting. These services include
mental health counseling, medical check ups, routine physicals,
sports physicals, reproductive health care, treatment for
acute and chronic illness, immunizations, vision and hearing
screening, dental referral, lab tests and pharmaceuticals.
We also provide preventive education on tobacco, alcohol and
other drug use, injuries and violence. The Health Center is
open every day during and after school so your son/daughter
can be seen at a time that is convenient for his/her schedule.
To be seen, you need to enroll your son/daughter
in the Health Center by completing and signing the enclosed
registration, consent and health history forms and returning
them to the Health Center.
Health Center services are free. However,
support from the Families and Education Levy does not cover
the entire cost of the Health Center. If you have health insurance,
we ask that you complete that section of the registration
form so that we can bill your insurance company. If you do
not have health insurance, we would be happy to help you get
signed up if you qualify. All you need to do is indicate that
you have no insurance under the insurance section on the registration
form and complete and return the enclosed one page Medicaid
application.
West Seattle High School is fortunate to have
the Health Center and I hope you will take advantage of this
resource for your son/daughter. If you would like more information
or need assistance with any of the paperwork, please call
the Health Center at (206) 658-8048.
