Family,
Career & Community Leaders of America
Ms. Bothell
and Ms. Orton advise FCCLA, which is the official, national organization
associated with their department, Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
FCCLA is the acronym for Family, Career and Community Leaders of
America. When students are in their classes they are a part of FCCLA.
Their annual dues are paid by the department.
FCCLA promotes leadership, community service, fund-raising,
and having fun. They have meetings periodically in Room 149 at lunch.
Students who are interested in pursuing FCCLA after they leave their
classes can stay in touch by coming to the lunchtime meetings.
As part of leadership training, students may work
on a project related to family and careers, present their project
to their classmates and other groups and then present before a panel
of judges locally, again at a statewide competition in the spring
and finally at a national convention if they achieve the highest
score in their division at the state level.
The organization provides students with outstanding
opportunities for personal development and leadership. The leadership
project has been part of FCCLA for many years and the model they
follow has been duplicated by the senior project that is now a part
of state graduation requirements.
