CODE OF CONDUCT for Whitworth Elementary School
The CODE OF CONDUCT is a statement of expectations and consequences. Its purpose is to protect each child and foster his/her school learning experiences, and make sure every student has an equal opportunity to learn in a safe and healthy environment. We recognize that differences in discipline styles may exist in the home.
The Staff will be consistent with students in responding to and dealing with student violations of the CODE. Consistent staff enforcement of the CODE will protect the rights and privileges of all students at Whitworth Elementary School. We want to teach students to respect each other and have respect for one another’s differences. We hope it will teach them school pride and responsibility for themselves in preparation for what lies ahead in the years to come.
Classroom Expectations:
Each classroom will develop their own set of rules and post them in the room. Children will work together with their teacher to develop standards that will allow everyone in the class to work hard, feel empowered and be proud of what they are learning. The rules may be similar to the following:
ALL students will…..
· Be respectful, polite and kind.
· Enter and leave classroom quietly.
· Stand and greet principal and special guests upon teacher’s signal.
· Listen attentively and follow directions.
· Raise your hand when you wish to speak.
· Do your work quietly and carefully.
· Have permission and hall pass to leave the room.
· Always travel in pairs.
Consequences:
Children who abuse classroom rules will lose classroom privileges. They may also lose recess privileges. Classroom teachers may call their parents. Continued infractions of classroom rules may result in student(s) receiving a Principal’s Behavior Report (PINK SLIP).
Teachers will have the discretion to send students to the office with a misconduct notice after other solutions have been unsuccessful. The principal will investigate the incident and pattern of behavior, and issue a pink slip upon his discretion. Students who receive a pink slip must have the slip signed by a parent and returned the following day. Each pink slip will be entered on the principal’s computer file. PINK SLIPS do not go on a student’s permanent record.
Playground Rules:
The adult supervisor on duty is to be obeyed and respected at all times.
Teasing, fighting, throwing of objects, name calling, swearing, rough playing or intentional disruption of games will not be permitted.
All food is to be eaten in the lunchroom prior to coming outside.
Candy and gum are not allowed on the playground.
Use playground equipment properly.
All play will stop when the bell rings or the whistle blows.
Children must ask permission of playground supervisor to leave playground.
Toys, video games and personal items will not be permitted on the playground.
Children must wear coats or warm sweaters outside if the weather is cold. They are responsible for bringing in their own outerwear.
Students must go outside at recess time, unless they have written permission from their parent or guardian to remain inside, or instruction from the teacher. When the bell rings, all students must line up outside with their class.
Once children have left the building for recess, they must not re-enter until the bell signals recess to end or have supervisor's permission to go to bathroom or office.
Three bells mean that it is raining too hard to be outside. Follow rainy day procedures. If you are already out, you must come in when you hear the three bells.
Each rainy day recess will be determined by the school administrator.
Consequences:
Playground activities are privileges. If children abuse them, they lose them. Subsequently, they may be required to stand against the wall or stay in the classroom. If the above rules are repeatedly violated, those students will lose their recess privileges for a longer period of time.
Lunchroom Procedures for Breakfast & Lunch:
Students will be courteous and keep their area clean.
Students will use quiet voices.
Students will eat their food in the lunchroom only, unless otherwise instructed by their teacher. Food sharing is not allowed.
An adult will dismiss students when their trash is disposed of and their area is clean.
Students will raise their hand to be dismissed.
Only unwanted sealed foods and beverages will be placed on the sharing table. These items may only be taken after students have finished their lunch.
On lunch days when special treats are available, students must eat their lunch before they are allowed to have a treat.
After adults dismiss students, they will use the restroom if necessary, then go to the playground unless otherwise instructed.
IF STUDENTS VIOLATE THE ABOVE RULES, THEY WILL LOSE RECESS PRIVILEGES, OR BE REQUIRED TO EAT IN AN ISLOATED AREA OF THE LUNCHROOM.

Students who ride the school bus will:
Be respectful to your friends at the bus stop.
Stay out of the street and stay at your bus stop.
Follow the directions of the bus driver.
Walk on to and off of the bus.
